Yard Waste and Brush Collection Resumes April 3rd

Hopefully we seen the last of the winter season because our Public Works Crews are ready to begin collecting yard waste and brush on Monday April 3rd.

We know our residents have been eager to get their yards cleaned up for the warm weather season.  A couple of points to keep in mind:  It is against City ordinance to mix yard waste and/or brush with household waste.  In addition, no person shall deposit any yard waste directly onto any curbside, street, right-of-way, alley or sidewalk. Also, the truck located at our Water Street location for pre-collection season of yard waste will no longer be available.
If you have questions about our Collection programs please contact the Solid Waste Division, at 894-8312. For your information we have provided the following collection guidelines:

Yard Waste Collection:
Material to be collected must be placed in paper Kraft bags or 32 gallon or less containers (with handles) that are marked YARD WASTE ONLY* and weigh no more 40 pounds.
Plastic bags will not be collected.
Place your yard waste at the curb on your regular trash pick-up day. Please do not set yard waste bags to the roadway before your scheduled trash pick-up day as it is a violation of city ordinance and could result in the issuance of a nuisance fee.
Acceptable Yard Waste includes grass clippings, sod and root balls (without dirt), leaves, weeds, plants, garden trimmings, twigs, and hedge and shrub clippings.
*Yard Waste Only stickers are available at City Hall in Room 413 Sanitation Department, located at 301 Washington Avenue (an elevator is easily accessible at the Saginaw Street entrance).

Brush Collection:

East Side Residents:
Set brush out by the 1st of each month. City crews will collect brush beginning from the south end city limit working north from the 1st through 15th of each month.
West Side Residents:
Set brush out by the 15th of each month.  City crews will collect brush beginning from the south end city limit working north, from the 16th through the end of each month.
Stack brush neatly between curb and sidewalk with cut ends facing one direction. Do not place brush piles near signs, poles and guy wires.
Brush to be collected must be no large than 5 inches in diameter and be free of mixed material.
City crews are not responsible for the disposal of brush produced by contractors. Pick-up of larger amounts of brush and limbs resulting from a tree removal requires use of a tree removal or landscape service.

Thank you for your attention to these guidelines. For additional information, please call the Solid Waste Division at 894-8312.
