Code Enforcement
- Building a home,
- Renovating a store,
- Remodeling an
office,
- Erecting a garage,
a shed, or
- Putting an addition
on your existing structure.
If the answer is yes to
any of these, then you need to contact the Building & Code
Enforcement office and you will probably need to obtain a permit
before you start work and will have to have the work inspected.
The State of Michigan
mandates that most construction activities, including those
above, and such other things as roofing, foundation work,
replacement windows, porches, steps, as well as electrical,
plumbing and HVAC ( heating and cooling) must be done under
permits.
The permits and fees
insure the safety and compliance to the state codes and pay for
the time of the inspectors who must come to your property to
look at the work.
Presently the codes
being enforced are:
-
Michigan Building
Code, 2003 edition
-
Michigan Residential
Code, 2003 edition
-
Michigan
Rehabilitation Code, 2003 edition
-
Michigan Electrical
Code, 2007 edition, being the National Electrical Code, 2005
edition, with amendments
-
Michigan Mechanical
Code, 2006 edition
-
Michigan Plumbing
Code, 2006 edition
