Oakridge
Cemetery was established in 1851 by the Drake Brothers on a 20
Acre tract of land. At 154 years old, the cemetery is considered
by many sources to be the oldest in Bay County. Oakridge
was sold to Bangor Twp in 1866 and 11 years later, in 1877, sold
to West Bay City ………….. West Bay City paid $232.42 for the
cemetery and relinquished a half interest in an iron safe they
owned with Bangor Twp. And the cemetery chapel, depicted
in this photo was completed in 1949
Facilities
The cemetery has grown from its original 25 Acres to
approximately 45. 30 acres have been platted for burials
and approximately 15 acres are unplatted and available for
future development. Three new sections were recently
platted … Sections 8, 9 & 10 (show location on map). Each of the
new sections contain 1200 grave sites. The cemetery has a
96 niche columbarium for cremains….. 32 single niches, and 32
niches for double interments. The columbarium is located on the
northeast side of the chapel, and the Cemetery has a chapel
which is frequently used for committal ceremonies. In
addition to maintaining 45 acres of grounds, staff also maintain
2.4 Miles of roadways, 1.1 Miles of chain link and ornamental
fencing, and .8 Mile of perimeter sidewalk.
